Avant-garde of the 1950
In Eastern Europe, the automobile remains restricted to a certain stagnation nomenklatura despite great technical Trabant East German Democratic Republic and other GAS soviétiques. If, in Eastern Europe, technically nothing new appears, the West is conspicuous by its avant-garde.
The British manufacturer Rover decided to adapt the turbine engine so far for planes, on a land vehicle. In 1950, he presented a first model with this propulsion, a roadster called "Jet 1". Rover continued development and production of this type of engine until 1970. Also in France, Jean-Albert Grégoire and society Socéma develop a coupe driven by a turbine, which Cx allowed to reach 200 km / h. But the most famous vehicles with a turbine, taking the form of a rocket, are indeed the "Firebird" General Motors, the first model, the XP-21, appears 1954.
Chevrolet Corvette 1953, considered the first American sports car, is also innovative. Except that it is the first production car with lines directly from a concept car, it is best to first have a plastic body, namely the fiberglass. In France, the Citroën DS is the top of the display because of the impressive number of new features: a very aerodynamic profile, thanks in particular to the wheels bodied, a hydraulic power steering, disc brakes, an automatic gearbox, a hydropneumatic suspension etc. |
