The Roaring Twenties
In ten years, Europe develops and consolidates its auto industry, in the image of Germany. Indeed, in 1926, Mercedes and Benz merged to form the Mercedes-Benz company, a manufacturer of luxury automobiles and sports. Ferdinand Porsche was the technical director from 1923 to 1929. Born of the merger model "S" versions available in sports "SS", "SSK" and "SSKL." Previously, BMW began its conversion in 1923, with succès.
While the car completes its "democratization" and the Concours d'Elegance at the beginning of the century in full swing, the Roaring Twenties saw the emergence of automobiles regarded today as the most beautiful ever dessinées. They are a symbol of prosperity recovered after a difficult period. The two flagship models of two European manufacturers are emblematic of this period: "Tipo 8" of Isotta Fraschini and "Type H6" Hispano-Suiza. There are two very large cars with enormous engines (5.9 and 6.6 liters respectively)
Bugatti complete their style during the Roaring Twenties. Jean Bugatti, chief designer of the brand draws bodies described as sublime, "generous, marked by large movements, large curves intertwine gracefully"Although still more characteristic of this period, the Bugatti "Royale" occurred in 1926 in six copies. It is the most luxurious car brand, reserved its price of 500 000 francs to the elite and monarchs. Its dimensions are a measure of its price: the wheelbase is 4.57 m and its capacity is 14.726.
British brand Rolls-Royce, although born in 1906, takes its full extent in the 1920. Combining Rolls seller Emeritus, and Royce, perfectionist and quality conscious, creates automobiles certainly "the most expensive but also the best in the world". But this period of splendor, where bodies take an important place in the design of an automobile is only of short duration.
