Design Booming

From a stylistic point of view, cars are becoming more creative. Two schools of thought, although totally different, will profoundly mark the design of automobiles: the opulence and sophistication of American Italians. Americans are the first to bring the importance of design. The bosses office style work for the "Detroit Big Three" Harley Earl for GM, Ford and George Walker Virgil Exner for Chrysler. Raymond Loewy also plays a major role in this evolution. In 1944, a company of industrial designers is based with his help. Three years later, Time devotes its cover. His most beautiful creation Studebaker Starliner is in 1953.

But the Italian style is one that will have the greatest longevity. The big names of Italian design still dominated the field: Pininfarina, Bertone, Zagato, Ghia ... This new mode is initiated by Pininfarina at the Paris Salon of 1947, with the Cisitalia 202 whose bonnet is a "milestone in the evolution of post-war style".

While style studios have existed since the 1930 in the United States, Europe lacks. Simca was the first to understand the importance of design and thus founded the first design studio. Soon, other manufacturers background of the same image to the collaboration between Pininfarina and Peugeot.
